■ 15/04/09 - Afro Samurai The situation isn’t too atypical for a video game. You’re standing within the deadly gazes of a gang of enemies, 10-men deep. You have one weapon and whatever is in your inner strength. This situation is a little different, though. Samurais have been seen plenty, but rarely in this style. And by “this style,” we mean rocking a mean afro and one hell of a damn good soundtrack.

■ 17/02/09 - Afro Samurai Boss fights, boss fights, boss fights, boss fights. Say it with me and imagine I sound like Samuel Jackson, but I look like Steve Ballmer pumping up his employees about developers. Ready? Boss fights, boss fights, boss fights, boss fights, boss fights, boss fights, boss fights, boss fights. Fun, right? This seems like a fair approximation of the creative meetings between Afro Samurai devs and writers after playing through the game. And despite myself, I still liked the game, but c’mon already. Rarely am I reduced to button smashing as a legitimate method for vanquishing an enemy, and several boss fights required this technique.

■ 09/02/09 - Afro Samurai People have been fascinated with the Japanese Samurai for a long time. There have been quite a number of movies, TV shows, books, and even games based on these men of legend. Afro Samurai is based off of a manga series (comic book) that was recently made into an anime show. With the sudden surge of popularity, it was only a matter of time before a game bearing the same name was due to be released. The question remains, will this game accurately reflect the TV show while remaining run to play?

■ 28/01/09 - Afro Samurai Turntables scratch, the bass line rising and falling with each stroke from my sword. I dash through an army of assassins, all dead-set on retrieving the Number Two Headband. With ease, I separate their heads from their torsos through a series of well-timed slices. Forced silence fills the air as the blood drips from my katana. "Nothing personal," I growl as I take a drag from my hand-rolled cigarette. "It's just revenge." Test de Afro Samurai sur Xbox 360, chez GamePro.
■ 28/01/09 - Afro Samurai For those not in know about Afro Samurai, it was originally a manga that then got adapted into a cartoon, and features an assassin literally named Afro living in a sort-of future yet feudal Japan. Possibly inspired by Highlander, the story focuses on the number one assassin (originally Afro's father), who can only be challenged by the number two assassin. This naturally leads to all the other assassins wanting to kill number two so they can challenge number one.
